Honors Daniel Defoe, writer, pamphleteer, and English journalist best known for being the author of "Robinson Crusoe" (1719), the story of a castaway on an island. Defoe is considered one of the fathers of the English novel.
On his side, "Robinson Crusoe" marked the beginning of realistic fiction as a literary genre.
The shape resembles the oar with which Crusoe tried to escape from the deserted island.
The motif evokes the grain of the wood and the details are inspired by the original cover of the book "Robinson Crusoe". The clip is a feather, in reference to Robinson Crusoe's faithful companion, his parrot.
