The design of the pen is inspired by Stevenson's novel Treasure Island. The writing instrument and the rings of the cone form a whole that evokes a historical extendable spyglass. The body of the pen is coated in precious black lacquer and features the famous Hispaniola. To recall the plot that notably tells of a pirate mutiny, a small button rotates the flag to reveal a pirate flag. Vertical lines remind of the planks of the Hispaniola sloop.

The cap of the pen, coated in Montblanc's signature gold, is adorned with a traditional ship's chest. The clip, also coated in this signature gold, is designed so that its lines converge to form a compass rose. This clip is a replica of a mooring cleat, an essential element for securing the rigging of a ship. Finally, the top of the cap is crowned with the Montblanc emblem, made of mother-of-pearl.
