Ferrari is synonymous with aesthetic design, powerful engines, almost infinite technical innovation, and one of the most influential men in the history of the automobile. With a vast vision and an unbridled passion for motorsport, Enzo Ferrari led his company to unparalleled prestige and created a legend that endures. Montblanc has dedicated the Great Characters Enzo Ferrari Special Edition fountain pen to the man and his passion for racing. Inspired by both the coat of arms of Modena, Enzo Ferrari's hometown, and the iconic color of the Scuderia logo, this edition pays tribute to the second soul of Ferrari, the color yellow. The birth dates of Enzo Ferrari and his first victorious race are engraved on the cone, while his signature and the name of his father's workshop, "Officina Meccanica Alfredo Ferrari", in reference to Enzo Ferrari's birthplace, are engraved on the top of the cap. It is crowned by the Montblanc emblem in precious blue resin, an additional homage to the coat of arms of Modena, and surrounded by intricate ironwork evoking a vintage car grille. Enzo Ferrari's first victory, at the Grand Prix of Savio, was the occasion to mark the beginning of the famous Ferrari logo. Among the many spectators admiring Enzo Ferrari's bold driving was the family of elite driver Francesco Baracca, who fought during World War I in the same unit as Enzo's brother, Dino. Francesco Baracca's mother, Countess Paolina Biancoli, suggested that Enzo Ferrari use the emblem of a prancing horse from her son's plane on his racing cars for good luck. The association of the horse with the courage of a national hero and his will to dominate made it an ideal symbol for Enzo. Nine years later, the prancing horse was used for the first time on a yellow background to adorn the car. This occurred during the 24 Hours of Spa in 1932, and Scuderia Ferrari won the top two places with two cars bearing the prancing horse. The prancing horse is engraved on the cap of the Great Characters Enzo Ferrari Special Edition fountain pen, accompanied by the words of the Countess: "Le porterà fortuna" (It will bring you luck). The first car manufactured by Ferrari, the 125 S, equipped with twelve cylinders, left the Maranello factory on March 12, 1947. Twelve engraved lines symbolize the twelve cylinders. Enzo Ferrari's motto, "You cannot describe passion, you can only live it", decorates the ruthenium-plated clip. In homage to Enzo Ferrari's success, the Au 585/1000 ruthenium gold nib is engraved with the word "Pilota" (one of his nicknames) and the steering wheel of the 250 GTO, one of the most famous racing cars in the world.
