Throughout history, great artists have narrated the human experience in a universal language of form and beauty. The Montblanc Masters of Art collection honors their eternal contribution to the quest for perfection in art - a quest that Montblanc celebrates and participates in. Pierre-Auguste Renoir is one of the greatest precursors of modernism, whose sunny paintings set the tone for an entire movement: Impressionism. In tribute to this pioneer of French art and his beginnings as a porcelain painter, Montblanc has created the Masters of Art Homage to Pierre-Auguste Renoir Limited Edition 888. The virtuosity with which Renoir applies paint finds its origins in his apprenticeship as a porcelain painter, which began at the age of 13 at the Parisian factory of the Lévy brothers. He became a master in the art of painting delicate floral patterns that blend subtle shades of blue with the purity of white porcelain, each brushstroke echoing the beauty of nature. One of the few remaining examples of Renoir's porcelain painting inspired the design of the Limited Edition 888. Its cap and body are coated with a special lacquer that evokes the look of fine white porcelain. The translucent lacquer reveals a delicate Louis XVI pattern engraved, which can be found on the silverware of the time. The eye is particularly drawn to the lacquer pattern framed in gold on the cap, which reproduces a floral design painted by Renoir. The top of the cap is adorned with a Montblanc emblem in mother-of-pearl surrounded by various shades of blue, which also recalls Renoir's porcelain painting. The upper ring of the platinum-coated cap bears the engraving 1854, the year Renoir began his apprenticeship as a porcelain painter. The gold-coated clip, resembling two brushes of the type used by Renoir to create the fine details and broader surfaces of his masterpieces, is an attention-grabbing element. The wide lower ring of the cap, made of 750/1000 gold, completes the cap's design. The delicate folding fan with two tassels that adorns the partially rhodium-plated 750/1000 gold nib, handcrafted, is a tribute to the importance of the fan, an accessory that appears in many of Renoir's works, especially in many of his portraits of women. In homage to Renoir's drawing talents, a sterling silver Ag 925/1000 point is integrated into the 750/1000 gold cone, partially platinum-coated, allowing for his own sketches to be made with the silver point.
