Throughout history, great artists have told the human experience in a universal language of form and beauty. The Montblanc Masters of Art collection honors their eternal contribution to the quest for perfection in art - a quest that Montblanc celebrates and participates in. Pierre-Auguste Renoir is one of the greatest precursors of modernism, whose sunny paintings set the tone for an entire movement: Impressionism. Respectfully acknowledging the pioneering work of this eminent French Impressionist who continues to fascinate art lovers to this day, Montblanc has created the Masters of Art Tribute to Pierre-Auguste Renoir Limited Edition 92. The Impressionists, led by Renoir, were drawn out of their studios and into nature to capture moments of changing ambiance with vibrant colors, spontaneous brush strokes on canvas. This typical creative style, which involves applying paint in quick brush strokes, placed directly next to each other without blending, is reflected in the Limited Edition 92, whose 750/1000 gold body features hand-painted inlays in colors separated by fine golden bands. The colors and design of this edition celebrate one of the most significant paintings from Renoir's Impressionist phase: Luncheon of the Boating Party. The initial horror with which the Impressionists' technique was received had meanwhile given way to great enthusiasm. Luncheon of the Boating Party is described as “fresh and free without being too ribald,” critics applaud, “...one of the best things Renoir ever painted...” Renoir depicts the joy of life of a convivial lunch at a restaurant on the island of Chatou, where people from all social classes gather to enjoy their leisure time outside the city - whether they are elegantly dressed in top hats and Sunday suits or casually attired and sleeveless with straw hats. Inspired by these typical hats of the time, a weaving pattern covers the 750/1000 gold cap, while the colors of the awning, fluttering in the breeze, are reflected in the lacquer inlays of the body. The light brown Kalahari Jasper of the cap, in which the Montblanc emblem is inlaid with iridescent mother-of-pearl, conveys the warm atmosphere of the bright scene. The golden clip shaped like two paintbrushes - the tip of the flat brush still seems to be coated with brown - with which Renoir has just put the finishing touch to one of his masterpieces, catches the eye. In homage to Renoir's drawing talents, a 999/1000 gold nib is integrated into the cone, allowing for sketches to be made with a silver point. The handcrafted 750/1000 gold nib, decorated with an image borrowed from one of Renoir's last self-portraits, and the limitation number engraved on the upper ring of the gold cap pay tribute to Renoir's final period. At the beginning of the 1890s, Renoir's admirers express their dissatisfaction that the French State has not yet officially purchased a single work by this renowned artist. Finally, in 1892, a decisive year that inspires the limitation of the edition to 92 copies, Renoir is commissioned to paint a picture for the new Musée du Luxembourg. It is there that the Impressionists will be exhibited for the first time in a national museum.
