The sugar magnate Sir Henry Tate was one of the most important industrialists of the Victorian era in Great Britain and perhaps the greatest art lover and patron of his time. Through the lines of the pen's body with guilloché lacquer inlays and the decoration of the cap rings, the Patron of Art Edition Sir Henry Tate recalls the architecture of the London Tate Gallery. The retractable nib made of solid 18-carat gold is adorned with the engraving of a sugar cane plant - the raw material that constituted the springboard for Sir Henry Tate's success as one of the greatest industrialists and patrons of his time.
