The Montblanc Writers Edition collection pays tribute to the life and work of Robert Louis Stevenson, a pioneering and touching novelist. Born in 1850 in Edinburgh, Scotland, Stevenson aspired to two things: freedom and the possibility of immersing himself in another universe. He is the author of essays, travel narratives, and legendary adventure stories.
The novel Treasure Island inspired many details of this edition. The combination of the shapes of the writing instrument and the rings of the cone gives the impression of gazing at a historical extendable telescope.
The pen's design is a homage to Stevenson's work. Long John Silver, one of the most dangerous figures aboard the Hispaniola, is immortalized on the cap in a hand-engraved design covered with lacquer. Captain Flint, Long John Silver's faithful parrot, is also represented on the piece, in a hand-engraved design covered with a gradient of lacquer.
The golden clip in yellow gold mimics the shape of a mooring bollard, to which the rigging of a ship like the Hispaniola is attached. Behind the clip as well as on the body of this edition, a stylized compass rose adorns the piece in 18 K yellow gold. The body in solid 925 silver features an engraving of the treasure map hand-drawn by Stevenson, both the starting point and subject of the novel.
The pen has dimensions of 10 x 10 x 10 mm and a physical weight of 123.2 g. Its color is silver. The nib consists of two elements: the word Tusitala, the name given to Stevenson by the Samoans, meaning 'storyteller', and palm leaves, representing the writer's arrival in Samoa, the Pacific island he cherished so much.
